
Mighty Eighth Museum - July 2021
A vacation trip to Hilton Head Island, SC always requires a stop at the Mighty Eighth Museum in Pooler, GA (Just outside Savannah, GA). Restoration of their Boeing B-17 “The City of Savannah” is nearly complete and the aircraft fills the rotunda. The museum is full of memorabilia from the 8th Air Force members and includes displays memorializing the Tuskegee Airmen and the WASPS.

Outdoor Memorial Garden
The Mighty Eighth Museum Outdoor Memorial Gardens are full of monuments dedicated to Units, Aircraft and Crews from the Mighty Eighth Air Force. They range from walls of names to elaborately decorated monuments. They have a Gothic English chapel on site called the Chapel of the Fallen Eagles for ceremonies dedicated to the former members. As you drive down Interstate 95 in Georgia you can see a B-47 Stratojet parked in the Memorial Gardens. When you enter the parking lot at the Museum you can see their F-4 Phantom and Mig-17 parked outside.
