USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park

While on vacation in Florida, I made a day trip over from Destin, Florida to Mobile, Alabama to visit the USS Alabama Battleship (BB-60). The Battleship is joined in the park by the USS Drum submarine (SS-228). The oldest American submarine on public display. There is a Medal of Honor Aircraft Pavilion filled with an extensive aircraft collection, historic vehicles and war artifacts. Dedicated to all of Alabama’s Medal of Honor recipients. The outside grounds are filled with an excellent aircraft collection, military vehicles and memorials. Highlights include a Lockheed A-12 Blackbird, Boeing B-52D Stratofortress, Grumman F-14A Tomcat, North American P-51D Mustang, M48A1 Patton tank, Vietnam PBR Gun Boat and the Alabama Korean War Memorial.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

USS Alabama Park Grounds

There are several acres of grounds filled with numerous Aircraft, Helicopters, Tanks, Military Vehicles, Guns, Rockets, Boats and a replica Civil War Sub. Be prepared for a long walk as you traverse the USS Alabama park grounds visiting all the different items on display.

Medal of Honor Pavilion

Dedicated to all of Alabama’s Medal of Honor recipients, the Aircraft Pavilion features a memorial wall that pays tribute to these heroes. Includes an extensive aircraft collection, historic vehicles and war artifacts.

USN Patrol Boar (PB Mk3)

On display outside the Medal of Honor Pavilion is this United States Navy Mark III Patrol Boat. Developed in the mid-1970’s, it was designed to be a special operations boat for US Navy Seals.

USS Drum (SS-228) Submarine

The USS DRUM (SS-228) is the oldest American submarine on public display. It was donated to the USS ALABAMA Battleship Commission on April 14, 1969 and was brought to Mobile to join the USS ALABAMA at Battleship Memorial Park as a war memorial and museum.  She was opened to the public for tours on July 4, 1969.
